Dual SIM for work: how a work eSIM sits beside your personal SIM

Dual SIM means your phone runs two lines at once — your personal SIM and a work eSIM — on a single device. Your work number installs as an eSIM beside the SIM you already have, so you get a separate line for work calls, texts and 2FA without carrying a second phone or changing your personal number.

What dual SIM actually gives you

Set up the work line on iPhone

   Install the eSIM

   Open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM, then scan the QR from your invite (or tap the install link). Your work line downloads beside your existing SIM.

   Label the lines

   When prompted, name the new line Work and keep your existing line as Personal. Clear labels make the next steps obvious.

   Set your default line

   Under Settings → Cellular, set Personal as your default voice line and for iMessage/FaceTime, so everyday use stays on your own number.

   Choose mobile data

   Pick one line for Cellular Data (usually Personal). You can turn on "Allow Cellular Data Switching" if you want either line to use data when needed.

   Call from the work line when you need it

   In Phone or Contacts, tap the line selector at the top of the call screen and choose Work for work calls. Texts work the same way in Messages.

Set up the work line on Android

Menu names vary a little by manufacturer (Samsung, Google Pixel and others), but the flow is the same.

   Open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM (or "Add mobile plan"), then scan the QR from your invite. The work line downloads beside your physical SIM.

   Name the lines

   Give the new eSIM the name Work and confirm your physical SIM is named Personal so calls and texts are easy to tell apart.

   Set preferred SIMs

   In SIMs, set Personal as preferred for calls and for mobile data, so your default day-to-day stays on your own number.

   Turn on per-call choice

   Enable "Ask every time" for calls, or pick the line from the dialler, so you can send work calls out on the Work line when you want to.

   Confirm messaging

   In your Messages app, check the SIM selector so work texts go out from the work number and personal texts from your own.

Keeping work and personal apart

Use the work number for anything work-related — customer calls, work account signups, OTPs and 2FA — and keep your personal number for yourself.
